Pheasants still have some good strongholds if you search hard enough here in Illinois.  In short, if you find the habitat you will find the birds. I know because our upland IDNR sites produce birds and I’ve certainly hunted numerous spots in central Illinois on private ground that yielded good numbers also.  Most of these are waterway buffer strips with some prairie restoration plots and cattail marshes.  More habitat=more birds.  This is a great organization to help out!  Next year Illinois will host Pheasant Fest in Schaumburg, IL—THE upland hunting show in the nation every year.
