This is one of my favorite times to be out in the woods, either hunting or photographing whitetail deer. Bucks are beginning to scent check does and are actively moving during the daylight hours. This last week I’ve witnessed a marked increase in movement. Necks are starting to swell, sparring has gotten more serious, and I’ve seen my first injured buck.
This big bodied buck I spotted the other night is sporting a messed up rack. I’m not sure if it is a result of an injury or just bad genetics.
Lots of little bucks have been showing up too. On a good note I’m also seeing lots of does and at least three very large bucks that I hope to be getting shots of soon. I had the perfect set up the other night with two of these bucks out in the open and in good light. That’s when my batteries died, yep and my backups on the charger at home. Well live and learn. They are all charged up now and packed ready for use. I can’t wait to see what I bucks I can find in the next couple of weeks.
