Like I said in my last post it is about to get really busy for me. The State Fair starts this Thursday and I will be at my concession business for the next couple of weeks. So I decided to spend the last few days of freedom logging as much time outdoors as possible.

Thanks to my good friend Wayne I was able to photograph this juvenile Coopers Hawk at Lincoln Memorial Garden. Wayne leads tours at the garden and always gives me a tip about good photo ops. Wayne is also an accomplished photographer and we frequently compare notes about the best places to find and photograph wildlife. Wayne has hopes of making a botanist out of me, but I have trouble recognizing even the most common plants.

This weekend I also made a trip over to the beach house at Lake Springfield. The beach house is always a great place to stop and check out what different types of gulls, waterfowl, or shorebirds might be present. This Caspian Tern was delivering a snack to one of its youngsters. Also present was a Great Blue Heron that let me get up close and personal for a shot.

Then it was time again to check on the deer. There seems to be a lot of deer moving. Does, fawns and even bucks continue to be on the move.

I should be out again towards the end of August and will hopefully have pictures of bucks out of velvet. If you make it out to the fair stop by Pat and Mike’s corner across from the coliseum and be sure to say hi. You can friend Pat and Mike’s on Face Book for specials and hours of operation through the end of the year.
