Heartland Hook & Bullet show ahead

Thu, April 06, 2017

MT. VERNON – Kicking off its inaugural year, the Heartland Hook & Bullet Outdoor Expo will be held at the Crossroads of Interstate 57 and Interstate 64 at the DoubleTree by Hilton (formerly Holiday Inn). The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Heartland Outdoors will be on hand at the show, offering free magazines and a chance to subscribe for a reduced fee.

“We currently have vendors with everything from elk meat and products to metal signs, ATVs, fishing supplies, wildlife home décor and more,” said Heath Accomando of Mondo’s Taxidermy and the event chair.

Located just north of Rend Lake, Mt. Vernon is located in Jefferson County, where hunting and fishing opportunities are plentiful. Picturesque landscape enables urban residents an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. New bike trails are being formed near Jaycee Lake and the King City Dirt Riders have memberships available for motorcycle and ATV enthusiasts who can enjoy open riding at the club as well as club sponsored Hill Climbs, Moto Crosses and Hare Scrambles each year.

“You don’t have to travel far to find enjoyment for outdoor activities in Mt. Vernon,” Mike Coleman, event co-chair and local Shelter Insurance representative adds. “Besides Rend Lake, there are many places for the public to fish in Jefferson County, hunting is plentiful and other outdoor activities are growing every day.”

R & J Tactical Lazer Tag will be set up for all ages to play and a series of speakers will present information and education on a number of topics throughout the event. Martin Family Bounce Houses will have inflatables and a variety of concessions will be available.

“People in our region have been asking us to have an outdoor expo here for a long time,” Angela Schrum, Tourism & Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc. Director continued. “It is going to be a great family event weekend for Mt. Vernon and we anticipate visitors from all over the region.”

Hotel specials can be accessed by calling the former Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon at 618-244-7100 and mentioning the Hook & Bullet Expo.
