Vo Lee — with the help of fellow lakefront regular Russell Smith — caught what might be the biggest brown trout taken from shore on the Chicago lakefront.
Using minnows on a powerline at Montrose Harbor, Lee caught the monster brown Sunday. Before it could be landed, it tangled other powerlines.
‘‘It was an adventure,’’ Smith said. ‘‘It broke the powerlines. We had to shoot out the powerlines and catch the powerline again. It was a mess.’’
Smith and Lee are from the North Side.
‘‘We share the same lines all the time,’’ Smith said. ‘‘It is like a combination — our fish.’’
Stacey Green at Park Bait took the accompanying photo of Lee.
The brown is a freak at 40 inches long with a girth of 21 inches. On the certified scales at Henry’s Sports & Bait, it weighed 24.5 pounds.
